About

What it means to read a building before it is built.

Cognitive Inhabitation places agents with memory, reflection and planning inside a real BIM (IFC) model, and reads the social life a design invites — in workplaces, schools, hospitals and mixed-use buildings, at the stage where it can still be changed.

§ ISpace, as experienced

Agents treat space not as an address but as something lived through. Three layers accumulate as they move, and together they shape what happens next — to stay, to return, or to avoid.

Perceptual

Openness, daylight, enclosure, where one can sit or gather — the character an agent perceives on a visit, read from the building's real form.

Episodic

What happened in that place — a conversation, a crowd, a promise kept or missed — tagged with how it felt.

Impressional

The place-schema reflection distils: familiarity, feeling, attachment. Where two agents, in the same room, come to feel differently.

§ IIHow it grew

From a drawn map to the architect's own model

Described at the level of capability, not mechanism — implementation follows the corresponding publications.

Gen 01 · Origin

The village, transplanted

Built on the open generative-agents paradigm: a hand-drawn tile map, turn-based time. Enough to prove cognitive agents could live a full day.

Gen 02 · BIM-derived

The drawing becomes the world

The environment is derived automatically from the IFC model, with an independent verification gate guarding fidelity. Multi-storey space, stairs, atrium sightlines, a 3D replay viewer. This is the engine behind Paper 1.

Gen 03 · Continuous

The grid disappears

Agents read the BIM geometry directly: continuous movement, group conversations they can overhear and join, lines of sight in true 3D, bodies that differ by age. Runs on real construction-stage models without redrawing.

§ IIIWhat we publish

The evidence is open — every replay on this site is the run a finding was read from.

Published

The concept, the method and the verification results are published as papers. Paper 1 is submitted to the AIK 2026 Autumn Conference, and its research data is open on the paper page.

Verified

Every result is checked in three passes — ranking, distribution, then response to a controlled intervention — before it is called a finding.

Checkable

You do not have to take the verification on trust. The public replays are the runs themselves, so a claim can be checked against the footage it came from.

Transparency

The concept, the method and the verification results are published as papers, and every replay here is unedited output. The result data of Paper 1 — conversations, trajectories and ledgers for all three seeds — is open on the paper page. Implementation — code, parameters, profiles — stays in-house, as it does for any instrument still under development. We say so here rather than in fine print.
